Germany Calling

“Con Lawton” / Polyurethane / 9.5×17.5x7cms

Why So Because?

Last year I was scanning a lot of old family photographs and found a few that would make good reference for something like this, so I went and made a Portrait bust of Con Lawton of Burrane, circa 1980. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for many years, and as it is his 15th anniversary this year, I took the opportunity afforded by the pandemic lockdowns to get down to it.

I’m enthusiastic about having this piece on people’s bookshelves, so have tried to keep the price as low as I possibly could. To this end I’ve cast the piece in polyurethane resin, a material that should be robust enough to take a knock, but isn’t prohibitively expensive to produce at a relatively low price. I really don’t want anyone to feel that they need to spend hard-earned money on something like this, so I would invite everyone to feel free to ignore all of this if its not your thing (or of you just think its a terrible likeness…). I just felt it was a worthwhile project for me to spend some time on for those who would be interested to have something like this on their bookshelf at home.

There are two finishes : a/ Terracotta Effect and b/ White

For those who are interested in purchasing one of these busts, these are the PRICING OPTIONS I’ve arrived at:

  1. €100.00 (+Post&Package): UNFINISHED RESIN BUST. This one will be a little rough around the edges, but its one way for you to keep the cost down. I say it’s “unfinished” because it lacks the “flash” removal, sanding, prep and painting of the finished product. Please be aware this will be bare resin, and might yellow if exposed to sunlight over a few years.
  2. €190.00 (+Post&Package): FINISHED BUST ON A WOODEN BASE. This is the painted and finished bust on a finished wooden base.
  3. €210.00 (+Post&Package): FINISHED BUST + BASE + BRASS PLATE. This option will have a brass-etched name plate reading “Con Lawton / Burrane, Timoleague”
  4. There is also the option of a bronze cast if anyone feels they would like to pay more to have something with a bit more permanence. If I had an idea of numbers I could get a quote from the foundry on the costs involved (Obviously, the more people who are interested in this, the lower the cost per unit would be). Due to the pandemic, there will be a bit of a delay with this option, but I’m not sure how long of a delay this might be. Bronze requires a few more procedures and a great deal more labour, and my educated guess is that the eventual price would be in the region of €400-€500, but its perfectly feasible and worth it if anyone is interested.

Postage Costs:

IRE €13.00
UK €22.00
EUR €21.50
USA €30.00
AUS €30.00

SO… What I want from everyone is to have a think for a few weeks and get back to me by April 20th if you’re interested. On this date I’ll be ordering the materials necessary to fulfill requests, and it might be a while before I’m ordering the necessary materials again. What you’ll need to do is send me an email at colmlawton(at)gmail.com and let me know –

  1. Which Pricing Option you’d like to go with (see above).
  2. Which Finish you’d like (only if you’re going with options 2 or 3 above).
  3. The address to which I should dispatch your order.

I’ll respond with payment options once you send these details.

Again, please do feel free to completely ignore all of this – I only thought I should give folks the opportunity to opt in if interested. If you have any questions about any of this, please feel free to contact me at Colmlawton(at)gmail.com and I’ll get back asap.
